Prayer for Peace

Dear God,

We confess to times of insensitivity, ignorance, judgment, indifference, hatred and greed. Help us tear down the walls that separate us from each other. Lord, let us see you in the faces of our brothers and sisters. Let us hear the cries of the frightened.

Living on every continent are those who are oppressed, hungry, and heavy laden. As we merge in your love, help us unfold the red bud of passion as we become a people of compassion. Let us keep the lamp of life burning. Free us from our own limitations that we might free others. Renew in us your Spirit, that we might be faithful to each other in your love.

Together we can build your community, in our hearts, with our minds, words, and deeds. May our hands join, our minds unite, and our hearts beat as one.

This is our prayer of peace. We lay it at your feet that it may be acceptable and we all might be healed in your love.

In Jesus’ name. Amen*

The story of David is one of the most interesting and colorful stories in the Bible. It is a story of redemption and victory, war and peace, adventure and palace intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the book.

Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed

he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:

"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied:

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

“The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”—Philippians 4:6

A friend I have been praying for told me this morning that God has not answered his prayers for help. I responded by telling him, "God always answers our prayers. He either tells us "yes" or "no" or sometimes God simply tells us "wait". But he always answer our prayers, even the smallest ones. That is his promise in the Bible and it has always been that way since the beginning of time.
So in case you have given up on the Lord answering your prayers, don't. He already has. Perhaps you weren't listening.

 Run and Not Be Weary

“They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”

—Isaiah 40:31

Do you ever feel weary? Feeling tired from overwork or lack of sleep can lead to the loss of energy, and even temporary depression. This is the time to turn to the Lord, for He is always strong, and from his strength we can be refreshed and renewed and ready to begin again.

As a marathoner I understand feeling tired and exhausted. The one thing that always kept me going was the knowledge that God is with me at all times, giving me the strength to go on and complete the race. When my muscles were exhausted and lacking the store of glycogen sufficient for the race, I always knew that God was with me and He would help me to keep on running and finish the race.

Whenever i ran I always thought of this scripture from Isaiah, "Run and not be weary." Modern scripture tells us to not be weary of well-doing, that Christ is with us all the way to the end of the task, so we can depend on the strength of the Lord. He is always with us. Thanks be to God. Amen.
