Blessed Are the Meek

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5)

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus opens with a series of statements known as the Beatitudes. The word beatitude means "blessing" and the third Beatitude  is “Blessed are the meek." Meekness does not mean weakness, it means yielding oneself to the will of God. Jesus said "learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest in your soul" (Matthew 11:29). Jesus always did the will of his Father in heaven, and he promised that we will be blessed when we do the same. David gave us the same promise in Psalm 37:11, “The meek shall inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity."

Prayer for today:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your blessings and promises. May we follow the example of Jesus and be meek and lowly in heart, yielding our will to yours in all we do and say. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In Jesus' name, amen.
