The Moon is Rising

As the sun descends
And the moon arises
This question comes to mind
Who did you help today

The woman who asked for money
Or the child who needed a smile
A sick friend home alone
The dog you could have petted

Why does the question matter
It is just another day
Someone always asks for money
And there's always someone sick

We are all so busy
We hardly notice such things
After all, we are never finished
With all that needs to be done

Are we here to help others
Or to take care of ourselves
Do we live just for the moment
Tomorrow may never come

Let us look into our hearts
When the moon is rising
And ask another question
Why are we here?
