Retirement

It was never my plan to retire. So when I had 30 years in my former career as a stockbroker, I began looking for something else to do. Thanks to the Lord Almighty and 40 days praying on my knees, I awoke with the inspiration to start my writing career. I have so far written books of spiritual poetry, biographies of Bible characters I especially like, books on prayer, books of fine art, plus my own autobiography. All of my books and my daily messages of hope and peace can be found on my Author Page at www.amazon.com/Gene-Allen-Groner/e/B077YTVSJZ/.

I still write, but I have recently begun another vocation: caregiving for the elderly. I have regular weekly clients--some with Alzheimer's and dementia, and since I am a veteran I have been seeing other older veterans in their homes, helping them with meals and showers and laundry, etc. I like helping others, and I am learning many new and valuable skills and lessons. I am learning to be more patient and kind, and persevering through tasks that may be tedious and at times difficult. The rewards come with a smile and a thank you and the awareness that I am doing what I can to offer dignity and companionship to the elderly, many of whom lack a family to give them the daily care they need. I receive a small hourly wage that helps me with transportation and meals, but the main thing I receive is a warm and grateful heart. I pray for my clients daily, just as I pray for all my family, and I know that God hears and answers my prayers.

I plan to keep on working for as long as I can remain healthy, God willing.
