From Shepherd to King

This is one of my favorite stories from the Bible

and I go back and read it again and again. It is

a “redemption” story, the kind that makes the

readers take notice. A kind of rags

to riches” story about a young boy growing up

in rural Palestine, who becomes King of Israel,

and the leader of the most powerful army and

kingdom in the world at that time in history.

It is a powerful love story that was made into a

major Hollywood Production: David and

Bathsheba, starring Gregory Peck, Rita

Hayworth, and Raymond Massey. And it is a

story with such powerful lessons that any

student of the Bible, or of any literature can

not afford to forget.*
