Writing a Good Memoir, Part Four

A good memoir is very much like a good novel, with a captivating beginning, an interesting and informative middle, and an ending that leaves the reader satisfied, tying up any loose ends. You might want to end your story by jumping ahead in time to conclude your writing, perhaps even to the present day. This can give the reader a feeling of completion and emotional satisfaction. It's important to avoid going off on a new journey or adventure. Let this memoir reach its goal and leave the reader completely fulfilled and satisfied. This will leave you room to write another adventure later on if you want to.

One technique for the ending is to bring the title of your memoir back into focus, perhaps even restating the title to give the reader a sense of drawing the circle to completion. That way, both the writer and the reader can reflect on the lessons learned on the journey you've just shared with them.
